Smart vs custom messages

Updated July 2026

Your review request is the text and email your customers receive. Open Messaging and you'll see two modes: Smart Message and Custom Message.

Smart Message

This is the recommended default. ReviewWheel writes and maintains your review request for you. It uses the exact wording that has earned the most reviews across live campaigns, kept current for you. It is:

  • Proven wording from real review campaigns

  • Personalized with your name, business, and customer automatically

  • Compliant — the footer is handled for you

Most businesses should leave it on Smart and move on.

Custom Message

Want your own words? Switch to Custom Message and write your request in the Your message box. Keep [review_link] so customers can reach your review page. You can also use these tags: [first_name], [owner_name], [business_name], [review_link], and [job_type].

Two messages, automatically

ReviewWheel sends an Initial request, then a Follow-up request a few days later if there's no response. You'll see a live preview of both. When you're done, choose Update.
